How do we rate players?
|
|
Our software is an on-going project and new versions will be released constantly to ensure that our members have a pleasant experience and that our various confirmation, calculation and rating engines, will perform optimally.
A key requirement for our software is to ensure that all statistics entered is well vetted, dependable and consistent. MyRugbyCV.com is very proud to ensure that all information in our systems is trustworthy and steadfast.

We use the flowing process on a per game basis:

Confirmation Engine
|
|
Our confirmation engine use clearly defined and well-tested algorithms to ensure that all games that is entered into the system, is actual games that was played. When players enter game information into the system, after a game is confirmed, the system will use the default values which were confirmed in the system. See the example below:
Game Date: 08 April 2012
School 1 U15/A played against School 2 U 15/A
School 1 Score: 24
School 2 Score: 12
After a game is confirmed and a Player from School 1 or School 2 U15/A team enters a game for 08 April 2012, the game values will default to the result of 24 – 12.

Rating Engine and Calculations
|
|
All information that is entered on a per game basis will form part of the calculation to rate players on a continuous basis. The following inputs will form part of the calculation.
• Games Played
• Tries Scored
• Conversion Scored
• Penalties Scored
• Drop Goals Scored
• Rating by coach
• Opposition Coach recommendation
A different value is used for different positions for any personal points that are scored by a player. Example: A 1.Prop will get more rating points as a 13. Centre that scores a try. These values also form a fairly small part of calculated rating.

Coach Ratings
|
|
|
It is imperative that coaches rates players after each game is played otherwise this will reflect negatively on player ratings.

Opposition Coach Recommendations
|
|
Opposition coach recommendations is one of the most important pillars that the MyRugbyCV rating calculation will use as input and will carry the most weight in the calculation. Consecutive recommendations from different opposition coaches will boost the player rating even further. The principle of opposition coach recommendations is based on the fact that an opposition coach is more objective when rating a player who they do not know.
For Example:
Game Date: 7 April 2012 Opposition coach from School A recommend the 14. Wing from School B.
Game Date: 14 April 2012 Opposition coach from School C recommend the 14. Wing from School B.
Game Date: 21 April 2012 Opposition coach from School D recommend the 5. Lock from School B.
Game Date: 28 April 2012 Opposition coach from School E recommend the 14. Wing from School B.
Based on the above example, the system will rate the 14.Wing from School B very highly as three coaches from different schools recommended this player based on actual performance notwithstanding the fact that none of the coaches actually know this player.
